That's how long it's been since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. A decade has come and gone, and yet we still feel the pain for those who lost their loved ones on that tragic day. But sometimes, danger can breed the bravest of heroes, as evidenced by the passengers of Flight 93. They chose to fight back against the terrorists, and although the plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field, killing everyone on board, they prevented it from reaching its original target: the U.S. Capitol Building.
But the Twin Towers, and everyone inside, were not so lucky. The terrorists successfully brought them down, as well as the Pentagon, killing 3,000 innocent Americans in the span of a single day. But the terrorists did not succeed in crushing our morale or unity. George W. Bush stood amongst the rubble at Ground Zero, megaphone in hand, declaring that the ones responsible for the attacks would be brought to justice. Ten years later, on the night of May 1, 2011, he got his wish.
Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Queda and the mastermind behind 9/11, has since been killed after SEAL Team Six raided his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The world rejoiced that day, and we'll continue to rejoice every May 1, I believe, but today, we mourn. Most importantly, we will never forget. One event changed the world, one decade passed before those responsible were brought to justice, and hopefully, we shall put our political differences aside one day and stand together... as one America.
Thank you, God Bless you, and God Bless the United States of America.
