Chapter 12: The Second Coming
Later that night, Xavier rolled up my driveway, with Kyle and Coty in tow. I had already dressed in my gear and was patiently waiting for their arrival. They all seemed to be in higher spirits as they got out of the truck, determined to kill Smilex once and for all. But I knew, deep down, that we were all still saddened by the loss of Josh and Drew. All the more reason to seek out the beast, I thought. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
"You guys ready?" I asked them, as they made their way to the door. They all nodded in response. "Good. Follow me."
I led them inside, then showed them the way to my weapons closet. I was once again met with the beautiful sight of my glorious firearms collection. To me, it was just another examination. To my friends, it was as if they discovered the eighth wonder of the world.
"Damn, you weren't kidding," said Xavier. "I knew you were a huge gun enthusiast, but I never dreamed you'd have a collection this big."
"Hey, the Second Amendment is a kickass constitutional right," I replied. "Might as well exercise it to its fullest." During our conversation, Coty immediately caught sight of my Thompson submachine gun, and began to pick it up and examine it.
"Well, I know what weapon I'm using!" Coty exclaimed.
"Don't hold your breath," I said, as I took the gun from Coty's hands and put it back in its place. "It's just a collectible. That drum mag? Completely empty. And even if it were fully loaded, it'd be illegal to use, anyway. Sunny Falls and their gun control."
"Then how'd you get a hold of it?" asked Coty.
"eBay," I said. Everyone shared a laugh with that one. Kyle picked up an FN FAL and seemed to be mesmerized by it.
"This is a good looking gun," he said. "What is it?"
"That is an FN FAL," I said. "Semi-automatic, 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, 20-round box magazine. Highly dependable rifle, that is." Kyle's eyes lit up.
"I think I'll use this," he said. "It's a big, fucking gun."
"Eh, mine's bigger," I said. Laughs erupted once more. I reached for an M14 in the middle of the room. I already knew which weapon I would use. The SPAS-12 caught Xavier's eye, and Coty eventually settled on the PSG-1. Two riflemen, one shotgunner, and one sniper. Not a bad set-up. I gave each of them a brief rundown on gun safety and how to effectively use their respective firearms. After all, we couldn't afford any mistakes. We were going to end this. Tonight.
As we stepped outside, we noticed that no one else was out within the neighborhood. Perfect. Now, no one would see us carrying all these firearms and become suspicious. Xavier drove, while I called shotgun. Kyle and Coty rode in the bed of the truck.
"You remember where the bodies were found?" I asked Xavier.
"Yeah. They were located near that Mom and Pop store on Elm Street," he replied.
"Well, that settles it. Show us the way," I said. I didn't need to say it twice. Xavier threw his truck in gear and started to back out of the driveway. Before long, we were going forward, to the Mom and Pop store. I took a quick glimpse back and saw Kyle and Coty making small talk. I couldn't tell what they were saying, but it seemed lighthearted, as they both started to laugh. The laughs would soon end, though. This was no time for fun. We were men on a mission, with new resolve and vengeance to be upheld. Smilex had to die. No questions asked. If we failed... perish the thought.
Guns in hand, the PCES finally heads out to kill the beast. But will they succeed in their mission? Can they? Find out in the next exciting chapter of "Smile"!
